Openings

We are eager to work with enthusiastic, curious and talented researchers at all levels. Individuals will have the opportunity to perform foundational and translational research in stress biology. As the lab works at the leading edge of assay and technology development, individuals will have the unique opportunity to be trained on contemporary techniques that enable the accurate and high-throughput measurement of subcellular organization and gene expression. We will work with the individual and equip them with the adequate expertise that will pave the way for a successful career, be it in academia, industry or elsewhere.

Postdoctoral fellows

We are looking for postdoctoral candidates with PhD in the biomedical sciences. Background in epigenetics, RNA biology, cancer biology, neurodegenerative diseases or andrology is favorable. Experience in single-molecule microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, epigenomics, transcriptomics, single-cell analysis, bioinformatics and animal models of disease is not required but is preferred. Apply with a cover letter, CV and list of at least three referees. If you have any questions, please contact sethu@umich.edu.

Graduate students

We recruit graduate students through the Program In Biomedical Sciences (PIBS). Prospective rotation students can email sethu@umich.edu. While we are members of the Program in Cell and Molecular Biology, Program in Cancer Biology, and the Program in Molecular and Cellular Pathology, we can certainly work with PIBS students of other programs who are interested in our work.

Undergraduate students

Interested students can reach out to sethu@umich.edu with a CV/resume and class schedule. Students with prior research experience in molecular biology, cell biology, biophysics, or biochemistry will be preferred. We also engage in undergraduate student training through UROP and CaRSIP.

Research assistants

We seek candidates with at least a bachelor’s degree in the biomedical sciences and a year’s worth of related, technical laboratory experience. It is required for candidates to be experienced in basic molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemical methods. Minimum requirements include expertise in ALL of the following techniques: Mammalian cell culture, Transfection, Viral transduction, DNA/RNA/Protein isolation, Bacterial transformation (for plasmid preparation), Molecular cloning, Site-directed mutagenesis, RT-qPCR and Western Blotting. It is expected that candidates have knowledge about and contribute to fundamental laboratory organization, including, placement of lab orders and maintain/manage lab inventory. Interested candidates can reach out to sethu@umich.edu with a cover letter, CV and list of at least two referees.
